From the Founder

I built Fokus because I needed it — and so does my son.

This isn't a startup born from a pitch deck. It's a platform born from lived experience, late diagnoses, and a six-year-old boy who reminded me of myself every single day.

Why I Built Fokus

I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult — long after years of wondering why my brain worked the way it did. Why I couldn't sit still in meetings. Why a 10-minute task could take three hours. Why I felt brilliant one moment and completely overwhelmed the next.

When you grow up without that diagnosis, you don't get tools — you get labels. "Too much." "Unfocused." "Needs to apply himself." I internalized those labels for years before I finally understood the truth: my brain wasn't broken. It was just wired differently.

So when I noticed the same patterns in my six-year-old son — the bursts of energy, the hyperfocus on things he loved, the struggle to transition between activities, the emotional intensity — I didn't see a problem child. I saw myself at that age.

The Hidden ADHD Crisis in Boys

Here's something most people don't realize: ADHD is strongly hereditary. Research consistently shows that if a parent has ADHD, their child has a 40–60% chance of having it too. When both parents have ADHD, that likelihood increases significantly.

And yet, boys are frequently the last to get the support they need — not because they go unnoticed, but because the way ADHD shows up in them is often dismissed as personality. Rowdy. Rambunctious. A boy being a boy.

Teachers, coaches, and even well-meaning parents can miss the signs entirely because the behavior looks like normal childhood energy on the outside. The hyperactivity gets chalked up to "boys will be boys." The impulsivity gets called misbehavior. The emotional dysregulation gets labeled as attitude.

Meanwhile, the child is struggling — not because they don't care or won't try, but because their nervous system is working overtime without a single tool to help it.

My son may have severe ADHD. We're in the middle of that journey right now — the evaluations, the conversations with teachers, the late-night research. And I refuse to let him grow up the way I did: without answers, without strategies, and without a community that understands what he's going through.

Getting Certified to Do This Right

I didn't just build an app. I got certified.

I pursued a certification in ADHD coaching and ADHD in child development because I wanted to make sure Fokus was grounded in evidence — not just good intentions. Understanding the neuroscience of ADHD, the different ways it presents across age groups, and the strategies that actually help people build sustainable habits made every feature of this platform more intentional.

That certification also taught me something profound: ADHD support can't be one-size-fits-all. A 7-year-old needs something completely different from a 16-year-old, who needs something completely different from a 28-year-old professional trying to hold their career together. Fokus was built from the ground up to adapt — because ADHD does too.

What Fokus Is — and Isn't

Fokus is not a therapy app. It is not a substitute for professional diagnosis or treatment. What it is — and what I built it to be — is a daily companion for the ADHD brain: a place to track focus, build habits, understand yourself, and feel less alone in a neurotypical world.

Every feature on this platform — the age-adaptive modes, the Pomodoro focus tools, the Family Hub for parents and kids, Foki our AI companion, the reward systems — was built with a specific version of someone with ADHD in mind. A version of my son. A version of my teenage self. A version of me at 2am wondering why everything feels so hard.

If you're a parent watching your child struggle and not knowing what to do — I see you. If you're a teenager who's been told you're "too much" your whole life — I see you. If you're an adult who only just got diagnosed and you're grieving all the years you didn't have support — I see you.

This platform is for all of us.

With gratitude and solidarity,
